The Child Development Centre was started by a group of families, with children with support needs, who recognized the benefit of community-based early intervention services.

In 1974, with support from the local paediatrician, Dr. Asante and other stakeholders, the Terrace Cerebral Palsy Association was formed and later renamed the Terrace CDC Society.
