Developmental Consultants

Developmental Consultants (DC) support families, youth and children birth to 19 years of age. Working closely alongside our trans-disciplinary therapy team and community partners, DCs provide developmental monitoring, education, consultation and support with transitions to childcare programs, kindergarten, high school and adulthood.  

Families are welcome to choose whether to receive services at their home, the Family Connection Centre (Child Development Centre), Park Centre, or an alternative location.  There is no fee for this service.


Developmental Consultants monitor development and may offer:

  • Individual or group session
  • Consultation to support developmental goals
  • Referrals and liaising with other community and provincial services, as well as services at the Family Connection Centre
  • Co-ordination of services
  • Assistance with transition into a childcare program, kindergarten and/or adult services 

Developmental Consultants can help you and your child/youth with:

  • Communication skills
  • Learning gross motor skills (rolling, sitting, crawling)
  • Questions regarding reflux and digestion
  • Strategies to encourage tummy time

A child/youth may be seen by a Developmental Consultant when they have:

  • Difficulty communicating
  • Difficulty meeting developmental milestones such as crawling, walking, using words etc.
  • Challenges with sleeping or eating
  • Medical condition or diagnosis that affects an infant’s overall development (Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Down’s syndrome, Global Developmental Delay)
  • Family members concerned or have questions about the child’s development
